Real Madrid attacker Vinicius Jr has apologised to fans for his conduct when taken off in Sunday's heated Clasico clash win.

Vinicius was taken off in the 72nd minute and displayed his frustration by heading directly off the pitch.

He eventually reappeared to the bench and, following his club's narrow triumph, sought to engage Barça's youngster Yamal during unpleasant final whistle incidents.

"This day I want to apologise to all the Real Madrid fans for my response when I was substituted in the big match," the player wrote on X.

"Just as I have said in person during the latest session, I would like to express regret anew to my teammates, the team, and the leadership.

"Occasionally passion overcomes me because I always want to win and support my side. My competitive character originates in the passion I have for this team and everything it symbolizes."

He moved to the Spanish capital from his former club in recent years for a significant fee and has notched over a century of strikes in numerous matches.

But his future in the Madrid is far from certain with reports in lately suggesting that Los Blancos would consider permitting the player move on if they were to receive a good proposal.

When he was replaced on Sunday, broadcast footage from network Dazn recorded him saying: "It's always me! I'm leaving the team! It's better if I depart, I'm going."

In his latest message on X, Vinicius stated: "I vow to keep battling constantly for the benefit of Real Madrid, as I have acted since the very beginning."
