Edwards and O'Neil are two of the initial candidates in the frame to replace the former manager as head coach of Wolves.

Pereira was sacked on the weekend after the team's 10-match without a victory start to the top-flight season.

And both candidates - both of who have historic links to the club - are among the names to be considered by the Wolves ownership.

The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a possible obstacle to his hiring at Molineux.

However the former Luton head coach - who made more than 100 of games for Wolves during his playing career - is considered a leading contender for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys support from the Wolves board as they start the process of hiring a fresh head coach.

O'Neil is additionally emerging as a unexpected contender, even though he would be a surprising choice given he was released by the club in the previous winter.

The former West Ham United midfielder is currently unemployed meaning the club would not need to pay any buyout fee.
