Indianapolis Colts Face Falcons in German Capital – NFL Week 10
Hello, football fans. How are you? Alles klar I trust on this excellent morning kickoff to the tenth week coming straight outta Deutschland. The Olympiastadion in Berlin to be precise where at 8.30am CST/9.30am EST and 2.30pm GMT the powerful Colts (7-2) face off against the Atlanta Falcons (three wins and five losses). The fifth game played on soil in Germany and the first in the nation’s capital.
Pregame Highlights
As sparkly jackets go that is an absolute belter from the Olympic figure skater on the opening flip. A slight fluff from the broadcast team there as we hear “who won the toss?” from the commentator with an unfortunately hot mic.
Well, the coin toss went to Indianapolis and have chosen to get the ball first. Daniel Jones and company will be setting up shortly. Will the QB bounce back after a difficult performance in Pittsburgh?
In a similar vein the vocalist performing the Star Spangled Banner has some of the biggest shoulder embellishments you are bound to notice. Loving the sartorial choices today. The game is about to start after a choral number for the German anthem. Elegant.
First Quarter Gameplay
Scoreless at 13:30 in the first
And we're off! And we have early drama after Jonathan Taylor catches a screen pass, sweeps out for 15 yards to the right side then loses the ball … only for his center to save his bacon with the recovery. Colts are in Falcons territory already.
Still scoreless at 10:51
And the excitement continues as the Colts go for it on 4th down. The gamble fails to pay off as the wide receiver cannot reel in a fastball from the quarterback. Prior to the failed attempt the Falcons defender put a huge hit on tight end Mo Alie-Cox. The Falcons have come out fighting on defense as they attempt to end their three-game losing streak. Next up Sauce Garner’s debut!
Score Recap
TOUCHDOWN! Colts 6-0 Falcons 8:36, 1st quarter
Was that a missed touchdown by Kyle Pitts? The tight end drops a clanger, he was very open but the ball just swishes through his hands. That play rather sums up the high draft pick's professional journey to date.
So far, so disappointing but it only deteriorates for the Falcons as they turn over possession to the Colts on the 23-yard line. Michael Penix Jr is hunted down and fumbles the football.
A nifty 22-yard run from Ashton Dulin sets the running back up to roll in for the score on the next snap. Kicker Michael Badgley skews the extra point wide. Oops.
Falcons respond: 6-7 at 6:07
Penix Jr puts the fumble behind him by marching his Falcons down the field for a score of their own. Drake London makes some substantial catches to put them in the red zone then the seas part for the running back to saunter on to the goal line through the heart of the field for a 13-yard gain. The running back finishes it off for a short scoring run of his own. The Falcons take the lead.
